The Physicians are one of the five High Castes which make up the Gorean government. This is the caste of those who concern themselves with the healing arts. Surgeons, apothecaries, medical researchers and health practitioners are all members of this caste. Universally recognized as non-combatants during time of war.

This period of time is intended as a means to establish that the applicant meets or exceeds standards of medical practice of the PCoPK, a chance for the organization to become familiar with an applicants strengths and specialization, and an opportunity to establish a professional relationship between applicant and existing members. A minimum of two records of medical activity are required as well as a summary by the existing organization member to serve as a recommendation for review by the Caste Chairs.
4. Based on records submitted and the summaries from the existing PCoPK member (whether as mentor or colleague), the Caste Chairs will render a decision of acceptance. This may include reasonable recommendations for apprenticeship or further study as necessary in the case where applicable.
Medicine is an evolving skill, of which the term "practice" illustrates well. Well founded ideas by brilliant minds developed with experienced hands pave the way for the development of us as a Caste. Sometimes the idea is sparked by fresh blood, so we should not close ourselves off to that possibility. Likewise, we must not ignore the experience of our elders to temper the ambitions of youth. We must function together not unlike organs in a system to achieve true progress.
