Kamchak and I waited until the string had been chewed. When Kamchak had finished he held out his right hand and a man, not a Tuchuk, who wore the green robes of the Caste of Physicians, thrust in his hand a goblet of bosk horn; it contained some yellow fluid. Angrily, not concealing his distaste, Kutaituchik drained the goblet and then hurled it from him.

SUPPLIES
A physician entered the booth, with his kit slung over the shoulder of his green robes. He began to attend to the merchant.

Flaminius, swiftly wrapping a white cloth about the wound, securing it with four small metal snap clips.

Further, certain pieces of his instrumentation were clearly far from primitive. For example, there was a small machine with gauges and dials. In this he would place slides, containing drops of blood and urine, flecks of tissue, a strand of hair. With a stylus he would note readings on the machine, and, on the small screen at the top of the machine, I saw, vastly enlarged, what reminded me of an image witnessed under a microscope. He would briefly study this image, and then make further jottings with his stylus. The guard had strictly forbidden me to speak to the physician, other than to answer his questions, which I was to do promptly and accurately, regardless of their nature.

I looked about the room, turning my head painfully, and saw that the room was some sort of operating chamber, filled with instrumentation, with racks of delicate tongs and knives. In one corner there was a large drumlike machine with a pressurized door which might have been a sterilizer.
~Priest Kings of Gor

The physician was busying himself with fluids and a syringe before a shelf in another part of the room, laden with vials. I screamed. The shot was painful. It was entered in the small of my back, over the left hip.

Rim, from his own pouch, handed up to her a tiny steel half crescent, ground from the blade of a shaving knife. Part of it, wrapped in physician's tape, was bent and fitted behind her two fingers. The blade, as it projected from between her two fingers, was almost invisible.

TYPES OF MEDICATIONS
Although the books define Gorean Physicians as advanced, Many tend to take a primitive approach. This seems especially true for Free Woman Who prefer the holistic nature of fragrant soaps and candles to the crimson and steel of advanced medicine, although this is not always the case. In defense of Myself and Many others of the Green Caste, sometimes location of One's Home Stone dictates what is reasonably available. For example, a Raider's Camp in the deep Tahari is less likely to have access to a state-of-the-art medical facility than the grand City of Tor is.
Below is a list of medications typically found in Gorean medicine, organized by primary function and alphabetized. Many of these which can be harvested in nature and/or key ingredients of these remedies are listed on the Medicinal Plants page.

Sedative / Tranquilizer
"Sometimes," said Flaminius, "shock cannot be so easily prevented. Indeed, sometimes the lash itself drives the girl into shock. Then sedations and drugs are called for.
~ Assassin of Gor

The man with the Thief's scar again emerged from the ship, this time with a syringe. He injected a tiny bit of serum into each girl, entering the needle in the girl's back, on the left side between the hip and backbone, passing the needle each time into a small vial he held in his left hand.
The girl who had been stirring uneasily rolled about once, tossing her head to one side, as though in fever, and then her movements subsided and she lay quietly, sedated.
"They will not awaken now," said the man with the Thief's scar, "for better than an Ahn."
One of the men-at-arms laughed. "When they do," he said, "they will find themselves in the slave kennels." Several of the others laughed.
~ Assassin of Gor

"Kamchak said nothing, but then he got up and from a chest in the wagon he took forth a goblet and filled it with an amber fluid, into which he shook a dark, bluish powder. First Aid Kits
Some scrolls consider the First Aid Kit to be the "slaves' kit," however it is available for the use of All, thus the change in terms here. A first aid kit basically contains bandages, sutures and general painkillers. The first aid kit is not designed for treatment of every possible wound. Rather, it is designed with two aspects in mind: the commonness of inflictions and the ability to sustain life until more advanced help is available. Another aspect to consider is the degree to which You trust the members of Your home. The better trained and more advanced their knowledge, the more liberal You can be with the supplies.

Physician's Kits
The Physician's Kit is more substantial and carried at all times. Given that, the practicality and weight of carrying a large amount of unnecessary supplies must be considered. Certainly it would be more advanced than a first aid kit, but to think that One could carry a fully stocked infirmary in a suitcase, is simply preposterous. Contents may vary by region and Physician. For example, being from the Tahari, I use a salt-based (saline) solution as antiseptic rather than paga or other alcohol. Also, since the Swords of My home are Raiders and make My job more like a Battlefield Medic, My kit tends to contain a wider variety of dried herbs than what a Physician of AR who has an infirmary at His/Her disposal, might need.

Physician's Hall / Infirmary
The base of operations for most Physicians. Again, content will vary by location and Physician. Whereas the characteristic of both medical kits described above is portability, the Physician's Hall allows volume and quantity. Aside from the warehousing of supplies and setup of state-of-the-art equipment, the Physician's Hall can provide laboratories, examining rooms, rooms for in-patient care and lounging areas for visitors, etc. Here, a Physician is less likely to be confined by a lack of anything. The following list is not all inclusive, but will be updated to that effect.
